I agreed with a double glazing company for them to fit new windows. When the job was done I paid their bill and signed to say that the job was satisfactory. I have now found out that the windows are defective and not properly fitted. I have complained but they say that as I have paid and accepted the work they are not obliged to carry out any repairs. Is this right?

No it is not. If work is not carried out properly and in accordance with agreed specifications you are entitled to compensation. You do not give up this right by paying the bill.
