On 2nd August we obtained a judgement in the County Court against a builder who runs a limited company that had carried out botched work on our house. The total sum awarded in damages was £1446 and included interest and court fees. The builder was initially given 21 days to pay by the judge but she reduced this to 14 days when the builder said he was going to Turkey for three months, presumably to work, on 17th August. By that date we received neither payment or a proposal for payment. I realise we have several options which could be enforced if the builder was in the country, but, as he is not, what can we actually do? Do we have to wait until he returns, or is there anything we can do to secure the situation in the meantime?

I would be inclined to ignore the possibility of this person being out of the country as in all probability this is a smokescreen. You have the right to enforce the judgement by one of the available methods and should press on and do so.

Much will depend upon whether the judgement is against the builder personally or a limited company. Also whether there is any property over which to get a charging order or assets that can be seized.
